Hello you fabulous lot! How are you? It was lovely to speak to so many of you and your families last week, it really cheered us up. We are so proud of everything that you are doing and your positive attitudes too. It has been another wonderful week for the Facebook page; thank you all for sharing your creative ideas. The Year 4 Team are missing you all so much and we are keeping our fingers tightly crossed that we can all be back together as soon as it’s safe to do so. In the meantime, we have been busily working to put together lots of new tasks for you to try. Remember, as always, do as many or as few as you wish.
Reading Tasks
Aim to read everyday for a minimum of 15 minutes.
- Please read chapters 6-8 of Kensuke’s Kingdom.
- After reading, consider the following questions:
1. Can you list three 3 reasons why Michael was angry with the man on the island?
2. What did Michael do to relieve his anger?
3. On page 90, the author uses the expression “drowning in my misery”. What do you think this means?

Opening Night
Tim took another deep breath. Inside his chest, he could feel his heart pounding like a bass drum. Again, he took slow, deep breaths and picked up his script. Flicking through the pages, he read through his lines quietly to himself, mumbling under his breath. All his hard work over the last few months had been for tonight. Crossing his fingers tightly, he wished for good luck.
“Tim, are you ready? You’re on in 2 minutes,” said Mr. Smith.
“I think so, Sir,” said Tim in a shaky voice.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine, Tim. Break a leg!”
Slowly, Tim stood up and made his way towards the heavy, red velvet curtain. He pulled it to the side and stepped through.
Questions to answer:
- How do you think Tim is feeling at the beginning of the text?
- Explain how you know how he is feeling.
- What do you think Tim is waiting to do?
- What clues told you what Tim might be doing?
- Who do you think Mr. Smith is?
- Do you think “Opening Night” is a good title? Why?
- If you had to give this text a different title, what would you call it?
Writing Tasks
- Using direct speech punctuation, write a conversation between Michael and Kensuke at the beach, just before the jellyfish incident occurred.
- Write a character profile for Kensuke. Try and begin sentences with different words and phrases.

This week, we will be looking at gases!
- What is a gas?

- Have a look around your house, can you identify any equipment that has gas in them?
- Linking to your dictionary last week, can you find the meaning of these words? Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, fossil fuels, Nitrogen, Ozone and particles.
- Challenge question- How are gases harming our planet? Can you create a poster to illustrate this?

PE Tasks
This week, we will be focusing on a healthy balanced lifestyle! Answer the questions below.
- How long should we exercise for?
- What happens to the body if we don’t exercise? Think back to our Human Body topic!
- Could you create your own circuit of exercises? If you do, remember to make sure you drink plenty of water.
- What is a balanced diet?
- Write a diary of how you are being active this week.
- Can you record how long you exercise for each day and then graph your results at the end of the week?
